Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia, was the site of historical first Pride Parade for the rights of LGBTQ individuals on May 22, 2010. The event was marred by violent clashes with members of the far-right extremist group, the Slovak Solidarity, who threw stones and tear gas grenades at the participants of the parade. Many of the LGBTQ individuals suffered injuries in these confrontations.

The march, which began at Hviezdoslav Square in the city center, had to be rerouted to the other side of the Danube River due to safety concerns. Despite police presence, right-wing extremists hurled derogatory slurs and insults at the parade-goers throughout the event.

According to Roman Schlesinger, the chief organizer of the Pride event, the police did their best to ensure the safety of the participants. They cooperated closely with the organizers to ensure a professional and peaceful event. The organizers decided to change the route of the march from the original plan of going through the Old Town, as they received information about the presence of hostile individuals who intended to disrupt the event.

Despite the violent clashes, the first-ever Pride Parade in Slovakia was a significant step in the fight for LGBTQ rights in the country. The event was successful in raising awareness about the struggles of the community, and it sent a message to those who opposed their rights that they were not alone in their fight.
